We really want more teamsters and other members to get involved. If you have a safety idea or question that we could pass on, submit it to webmaster@nmdha.com and we'll route it through the board to post on the site. We'll try to bring you something new every month or so.

Tip #4
When harnessing my horses, I run the belly band through the loop on the pole strap. This does several things. One It works as an extra strap for braking. This keeps the belly band and hold back straps connected allowing you to not only use the britchen strap for braking but also uses the belly band, billets, and back pad to aid in stopping. It also allows you the ablity to adjust you hold back straps so they are loose enough not to pull on the britchen, but not to loose so if the horse goes to kick at a fly won't get his foot hung up in the hold bak strap. When I say hold back strap some of you may use the term quarter strap. I have found through the years this has really worked for me.
