As I 've been around the club for a few years, I've seen different articles from many sources. One that really stands out are the articles from Doc Hammill, from Montana. He really stresses safety. Here is the first of the biggest things I've picked up on :

#1 Always fasten your breast strap snaps facing inward towards the collar, instead of facing out away from the collar. This goes along with snapping or having the snaps on your combination snaps and pole strap and/or breast strap snaps so they face in toward the tongue. I've found it much easier to to snap my breast straps when my snaps are facing in toward the collar, as well as my snaps on the combination snaps facing in towards the pole when hooking up to my neck yoke. Recently I switched some horses around and moved a horse from the left to the right and sure enoungh I didn't turn the snap around in the combination snap and he was screwing around and got a line caught in the snap . I had them still on the hitch rail so I quickly fixed the problem and no damage was done. But it only takes a minute to change that snap.

We really want more teamsters and other members to get involved. If you have a safety idea or question that we could pass on, submit it to the webmaster and we'll route it through the board to post on the site. We'll try bring you something new every month or so.
